The Truman Show (1998)
Nominated for the Academy Award for screenplay written directly for the screen, director, and supporting actor. This is an incredibly well done movie and probably Jim Carrey's best work. The idea is great: a man is followed around by hidden cameras for his entire life. The whole world watches him grow up and shares in his victories and defeats.
Well, the facade can't last forever and the man starts to notice strange things happening around him. He begins to see through the blanket over his eyes and sets out to find what's out there. Jim Carrey can be so good when he's not talking like an idiot or slamming himself into walls. (Directed and uncredited writing by Peter Weir)
