Raging Bull (1980)
Won the Academy Award for editing and actor. Nominated for cinematography, sound, director, supporting actor, supporting actress, and picture. Winner of the American Film Institute’s top one hundred movies of all time: number twenty-four. Brilliant film about the life of boxer Jake La Motta and is actually based on his autobiographical book. The man was so full of hate and anger, and so violent inside the ring that he was dubbed the "Raging Bull". Hence the name. Unfortunately his life outside the ring was no different and sadly he became his own worst enemy, as most of his struggle was a result of his own self-destructive behavior. De Niro trained so extensively for the few screen minutes of boxing that he actually fought and won a few professional fights after filming. (Directed by Martin Scorsese)
