Mala Noche (1985)
Interpreted to Bad Night in Van Sant's film debut, he tells the tale of Walt Curtis's autobiographical novella of the same name. It's about a man who falls in love with a young, Mexican immigrant. He tries to impress they young man, only to be found strange and is rejected. The film holds an ultra-realistic feel to it and mirrors Van Sant's romanticized view of losers seen in his later films. (Written and directed by Gus Van Sant)
