Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)
Nominated for the Academy Award for art direction/set decoration and original score. Wonderful adaptation of the first of Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles". While the rest of Rice’s chronicles follow the vampire Lestat, this story is about his vampire spawn Louis, a miserable and self-loathing creature. The tale is told as Louis reveals the story of his life to a young and skeptical reporter, leaving no dark detail undescribed. Anne Rice was very pleased with the film adaptation of her book, and despite her original disappointment in Tom Cruise’s casting as Lestat, she later confessed that he portrayed the part perfectly. If you’re a fan of the series, look for the sequel based from the third novel in the series, The Queen of the Damned. (Directed by Neil Jordan)
