God, I can’t believe it’s been so long since we’ve written a Gazette update. Sorry to all of you loyal Gazette fans.  We will try harder to keep you as in touch with the Gods of Filmmaking as possible.

The other day I was digging through some of my old crap and found a bunch of old Nintendo games that I played when I was a kid.  So I hooked up the ancient machine and spent the afternoon reminiscing.

Once thing that struck me as amusing (and sticking with the topic of film) was all of the old movie based games that I had.  Some of these games are so silly that it made me laugh. In Friday the 13th, you control one of six Crystal Lake Camp counselors and run around killing zombies and birds until you inevitably run into Jason himself and he slaughters you with his machete.  You can beat him, but you need a weapon like a knife or a rock or something. I was never very good at that game.

In Jaws, you control a boat that floats around the ocean collecting star fish and conch shells. You use these shells to purchase a “Jaws Detector” and additional power to kill Jaws.  When you run into the mighty shark, you have to hit him about a billion times with your spear gun, and then you are launched into a final battle where you have to make him jump out of the water with your strobe light and then stab him with your ship.  It makes no sense but that’s a great game.

Compare those games to movie games that have come out recently.  In Enter the Matrix, you actually guide characters through the Matrix and learn more about the story behind it. In Spider-Man:  The Movie, you have 3D environments that can be explored top to bottom. The Blade II game is even presented with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.  Ain’t technology grand?

Do you have a favorite movie video game, new or old? Please drop by our message board and let us know what it is.  Anyway, take care and be good to each other.
