Heaven and Earth (1993)
The story is based from the memoirs of Le Ly Hayslip, who grew up amidst the conflict of the Vietnam war. She lived an unimaginably hard life trying to bring up a child and survive in poverty. She eventually met Steve Butler, an U.S. Marine, and the two fell in love. He promised to take her back to America with him when he was released and two eventually got married. This film rounds out an unofficial trilogy of Stone Vietnam movies, though is not considered by most to be his strongest work. Watch Platoon again instead. (Written and directed by Oliver Stone)
