12 January 2003

2003!! It is here.  Remember 3 years ago when we all worried about the turn of the Century? Now we are all back to making the same New Years resolutions that we have made all of our lives.

Well here at Ambidextrous Pictures we are making some resolutions too.

    1. To buy us some Air Force One’s
    2. To make this site the best we can
    3. To find out why the Anna Nichole Show was made
    4. To lose 10 pounds
    5. To find a new career

We have worked a little on the site. We have added new pages and links. We are trying to make the site more easily navigated. If you have any suggestions please e-mail us and let us know.

We are looking forward to a great year, and hopefully you will check back often and visit with us. Remember, if you like the site, tell your friends!!  The way you can tell everyone that you were Ambidextrous be fore being Ambidextrous was cool.

We haven’t written a Gazette entry in quite a while. It isn’t because we don’t want to.  We have been using NetObjects fusion for our site, and it has been giving us quite a bit of trouble.  As you are aware the buttons have taken on a life of their own. We have decided to go to text only links for now so that at least you can get to where you want to on the site.

We are looking at getting a copy of Dreamweaver software and rebuilding the site with that. Hopefully by next spring we will have all of the bugs worked out, and we will be able to have more interaction with the site, rather than running around trying to fix the problems we are having currently.

We also have been scouring the net looking to products that are from the films we have on our site.  We are happy to let you know that on all of the Zeus Gods of Filmmaking we have merchandise pages developed.  You can click the button at the top of the page, or on any of the posters and take a look at the pages.  Also we will have more directors getting merchandise pages all the time, so keep checking. We are hoping to launch a new page about every 4 days.

One more item about the site. We have set up some links for translation. We have all the European languages represented by the flags, and soon we will have the Asian languages as well. We decided to do this as about 33% of our traffic is international.  Check it out and let us know what you think!!

With it being the end of the year, a lot of strong movies are coming out. I have seen Harry Potter’s second installment, and I really enjoyed it. I am going to go see the new Jams Bond film this weekend, and I am looking forward to the second helping of Lord of the Rings. There are also several movies that are not second helpings that are coming out.  Drop us a note, or stop by the message board and let us know what you are looking forward to seeing.

I wanted to take a moment and put in a plug for a band I really enjoy seeing when I am in Las Vegas. If you go to Vegas, get over to the Green Valley Ranch Casino on Friday and Saturday nights.  There is an Irish pub there called Fado’s.  At 10:00pm there is a band called “Darby O’Gill and the Little People”. They are absolutely fantastic!!  This is definitely a must see.  I go see them every time I am there.

Well that ends our un-sponsored advertisement.

As always I am

I am, in a nutshell, two things.  One is a movie fan.  Two is a collector.  Fortunately the two passions have a number of crossovers and I find myself frequently purchasing a number of movie related products.  I try to acquire a fairly broad spectrum of items to keep the collecting interesting, but I consistently find myself drawn to something that has been gaining in popularity over the past few years which is action figures based on films.

Now, there have been toys created based on films since nearly the beginning of film itself.  The hobby took a leap in the late 70’s with the extensive line of action figures that Kenner released for Star Wars.  There were a few lines of movie figures released in the eighties and early nineties, but in 1997 McFarlane Toys designed a line of movie based action figures that were made solely for the sake of collectors.  The line was called the Movie Maniacs and it consisted of antagonist characters from cult horror movies such as Jason from Friday the 13th, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Based on the popularity of the series, not only did McFarlane Toys create more film related action figures, but a number of other companies started popping up with lines of their own.  N2 Toys released extensive lines of figures based on Mad Max:  The Road Warrior and The Matrix.  Mezco did a pretty cool line of Reservoir Dogs action figures.  Aztech Toyz recreated Graf Orlok from Nosferatu and Cesare from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in their Silent Screamer line.  Even established companies started hopping on the band wagon.  Hasbro did a line of figures for Alien Resurrection and Toy Biz (Marvel Entertainment’s toy division) did a line for Blade.

I didn’t originally intend this to become an action figure history lesson, but I do have collecting on the mind as I just recently picked up the fifth series of McFarlane’s Movie Maniac line. The line includes the Lord of Darkness from Legend and the Terminator Endoskeleton from Terminator 2, among others.

Anyone else out there a collector?  Would you care to discuss your passion? Hop on over to our message board.  We’d love to hear from you.

21 August, 2002

Well I woke up this morning and looked at the site.  I have no idea how the site got so screwed up, but we are fixing it now. There were buttons that were messed up, we lost some of our gazette entries, and pictures were coming up funky.

I have two theories about this.  One it is because we have put this site together with duct tape, and staples (we are still learning how this internet thing works). Or two someone hacked our server and screwed things up for us.

Since I don’t believe that someone is industrious enough to screw with our little microscopic piece of the web, I am going with theory one.  We have learned much since launching this site, and as we have talked about in the past, we are rebuilding from scratch a new well built site.

We are hoping to launch this new version on Sept 1, 2002, so mark it on your calendars, check it out then, and give us your thoughts. For now We will do our best to keep this from screwing up, but if it does please let us know so we can fix it.

As far as movie stuff goes, I have been on a movie watching streak.  I have seen Minority Report (can not recommend it highly enough), Bourne Identity (recommend), Spy Games (recommend), Ed Wood (very different, but I liked it), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (I liked it), and Spy Kids (could have missed it).  So there you have a few movies to go see on my highly educated recommendations. (just kidding....no on the educated part, not the recommended part)

As Always we are fools for e mail. Please do not hesitate to drop us a line about anything that you would like to talk about. (movies, the web site, current events, etc.).) Also we love to have people post to the message board so that everyone can discuss things and stuff, but mostly stuff.

As Always I am

P.S.

8 July, 2002

Well here we are, recovering form the long 4th of July weekend, and all of the festivities that go with it.   We hope you kids had a great weekend, and are ready to dig into the rest of the movie going summer with great vigor.

I went to see Men in Black IIthis weekend. I felt that it was entertaining, and worth seeing, but not better than the first. I know that is cliché’ but now I am going to explain why it is cliché.

When you stumble across a story that is fresh and very successful, you want to make more money....errrr I mean you want to entertain the people more.  When you come out with the second film a couple of years later it is terribly difficult to do the same story in a format that is the same as the first and a whole new film at the same time.

Men in Black II doesn’t suffer from The Spy Who Shagged Me syndrome. It isn’t exactly the same film with exactly the same joke.  But having seen the first many times with my kids, I can tell you that I probably will not rush out to buy the DVD and see it over and over again.

Ian went to see The Bourne Identity. He disagrees with Matt and was disappointed with it.  I think we may have another Point Counter Point on our hands. I will keep you posted if that argument gets off the ground.

On another note one of baseballs greats....in fact an American Hero passed last week.  Ted Williams. He played for the Boston Red Sox, and retired with a career.......mind you a lifetime career of .406 batting average. That is unheard of today.  All of the baseball players today should hang their heads in shame with their averages. Not just because the fans want it, but because none of them even start to match what Ted accomplished in his life.

Today’s players are talking about another streak.  If they do, I for one will not watch a pro game ever again. Why do they deserve more money when none of them can play as consistently as the heroes of yesteryear. The last man to be a real hero in baseball was Cal Ripken.

What Ted did for baseball is like a director winning picture of the year every year for his career. It will not soon be duplicated.  Ted you will be missed. Thank you for what you brought to America’s past time. May you rest in peace.

Well enough of my Soap Box for the day.  As far as the site goes, by the end of the month we are hoping to have the new version out. It will have faster loading graphics, and all of the stuff that you love about it right now. So keep checking in. As always, we love to hear from you. Drop us a line.  And Remember “If Ambidextrous is good enough for you, it is good enough for your friends.”  So tell you friends about our site.

Have a Handsome Guys Day!

Scott of the Handsome Guys

25 June 2002

Good morning all you handsome boys and girls.  Today we are going to update you on what is happening here at Ambidextrous Pictures.  We have been working hard on our next version of the web site.  We are developing a Hitchcock page with a synopsis of almost all of his films. Some of them we can’t find, but when we do we will post them.

We are working on a Film History section where you can learn from the Handsome Guys University (GO HGU!!!) how film came to be the fantastic thing we see now.  We also are working on making the site load faster so you can look at more pages in less time. Sorry about that we are net virgins, and just learning about site design.

And in the filmmaking side we are proud to tell you that we have begun story-boarding 72 Virgins. We hope to begin shooting at the end of the summer.

So as you can see we have been busy little handsome guys, and we have been neglectful in our attention to the Gazette.  On a side note we have had over 35,000 visits and almost 500,000 hits since December.  Thank you all for coming to our side and stroking our egos. We need it desperately.

We would love to hear from you so please do not hesitate to stop by any of our e-mail links on any page and drop us a line. We really value your opinion, and input on the site.

  Shameless e-mail link

Humbly your Handsome Guy

11 June 2002

It has been a little while since we last wrote.  I decided I would write about a few things I thought about this morning. I am tired of all the advertisers that are trying to sell something that has been around for years, and making it now.

For example, the Pizza Hut Pizzone commercial. It seems that they are trying to make it like the calzone has not been around for years and years. They just came up with the idea, and we are supposed to be so grateful that they have invented it.

Mcdonalds is now selling pita bread tacos. Wow that hasn’t been done EVER in the history of the United States, or the world for that matter.  They ask if we are ready for the experience.  Yea except we were ready years ago.

And finally this morning the best of all Coca Cola has released vanilla now.  In the commercial they say that they have come up with this new flavor. Hell my mom has been drinking them since she was a kid.  There is a soda shop in Midvale Utah called Vincent’s Drug Store that has been serving them since the 50’s.  But they just couldn’t get it right.  So for the good of America Coca Cola has decided to grace us with the new idea of vanilla coke.

I would be much more impressed if they would admit that they are just joining the bandwagon rather than reinventing...no wait.... inventing it for the first time.  Do you really think we are that stupid corporate America? I am actually offended at this newest trend in ridiculous advertisement campaigns. If you feel the same email me and lets bitch about how they treat us.

OK enough with the ranting and raving. Sorry that I opened this with non-entertainment related stuff. On with movie talk.

This week The Bourne Identity is released. I for one am very excited to see how this plays out.  We are about to have a new look at Matt Damon’s acting range. I feel that this is a very different role for him. If he doesn’t do this right he will look very silly. I think that he will do fine, and the previews look excellent. I will be in line opening night.

As always, I am

Scott of the Handsome Guys.

Handsome Guys and Girls, let me talk to you about something that is important to me.  I don't want you all to make the same mistakes I make and suffer the same consequences that I suffer.  Learn from my errors and live a better life.  Read on!

It's nine o'clock on Saturday night.  You're relaxing with your friends and have a belly full of meat.  Someone suggests Blockbuster and that sounds like a fine idea.  But wait, it's Saturday night.  There's no decent movies left on Saturday night.  You get there and it ends up being between Black Knight and Models Incorporated 3.  Let me tell you something people:  ten out of ten times you choose Models Incorporated 3.  Unfortunately only hindsight is 20/20.

I did a little post incident research.  Black Knight cost 50 million dollars to make.  That's $50,000,000.00.  What I want to know is this:  what asshole was presented this script, liked it, and decided to pump the price of a black market nuclear weapon into it's production?  I understand that what is good and what is well done isn't always marketable, but this movie was absolute shit.  It was Reindeer Games bad.  It was Chill Factor bad.  It was Battlefield Earth bad.  God it was painful.

I'm starting up a petition to stop Martin Lawrence from acting.  It's a cause that I feel strongly about and if you have any concerns about your children growing up in a world where Martin Lawrence is allowed to do what he does, you should too.  Sign up below.

Sign the P.A.M. (People Against Martin) petition.

24 May, 2002

Well here we are Memorial Weekend. It has been a wild year so far for us here at Ambidextrous Pictures.  We have a lot of thing in different levels of production. Keep tuning in and we will keep you updated on our progress.

We are freaks about movie trivia here at Handsome guys, and you will find interesting little tidbits through out the site.  Today I am going to make a list of trivia about Episode II

  • Hayden Christensen made “light saber noises” when he first time he was given one for the film.  Lucas jokingly told him that they probably have some guys in post production that could do that better.
  • The entire film was shot using digital cameras.
  • It was shot on the same set as Moulin Rouge which also starred Ewan McGregor.
  • When Anakin and Obi Wan chase the assassin into the bar the video game “Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer” game running.
  • Samuel Jackson has “B.M.F.” inscribed on his light saber.  That stands for “Bad Mother Fucker” which is also on his wallet in Pulp Fiction.
  • When Anakin and the senator land on Naboo, you can see the Millennium Falcon.
  • And last, you can see E.T. on an advertising screen out side the bar when Anakin and Obi Wan chase Sam Wessell.

I hope that you enjoy the site, and remember the price that was paid by our veterans, and is being paid for by every soldier, sailor, airman, and marine on duty today.

21 May, 2002

Well I stand corrected.  I went to see Episode II and not only was it sold out, but the crowd was very into it.  I felt that the first part was very slow, and actually quite painful.  However, once the action started, it was kick ass. I have seen on a lot of discussion boards that peoples reactions are very mixed. In the theater that I was in everyone was cheering and clapping. I am finally excited to see the next installment.

We have a section started on our message board to discuss Episode II. If you like the idea of the message board jump in and discuss.  If not drop us and e-mail, and let us know.

At the Cannes Film Festival this week, God of Filmmaking director Paul Thomas Anderson premiered Punch Drunk Love.  Not a lot of press at this time, but the movie has gotten some good reviews.  Also on a side note God of Filmmaking David Lynch is presiding on the Feature Film Jury this year at Cannes.  It is nice to see our boys do well out there.

That is about all I have for now.  Go see a movie, write to us about it, and remember ....YOU are a Handsome Guy!!

15 May 2002

Well kids, we are only two days from the release of The Attack of the Clones. I can’t help but feel that some of the fever that accompanied the other releases has died down this time. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited to see it, but it doesn’t seem as big a deal as it did in the 80’s.  I guess nothing stays gold forever.

On another note we have decided to try a message board.  We have linked it to many of the pages you already know and love. If you are interested, get on it and talk.  We will keep it open. If no one is going there we will discontinue it and try to find something else that you like.

As always we love getting e-mail and would love to hear of anything you want to see on the me.  So keep those cards and letters coming. Also remember our motto “If being Ambidextrous is good enough for you, it is good enough for your friends” so let all your friends know about the little slice o’ the web called Handsome Guys!!

I heard the new Eminem song today.  Not a bad song overall, but here's the chorus.

Now this looks like a job for me
 So everybody, just follow me
Cause we need a little, controversy
Cause it feels so empty, without me

Two things came to mind as I listened.

One:  I would say that about 90% of all Eminem songs that I have ever heard
are about how controversial he is.  At what point do you stop being
controversial, when all you ever talk about is how controversial you are?  Is
talking about controversy controversial?  Find a new subject, Em.

Two:  Does it show any talent at all to rhyme four words, and make three of
the words exactly the same?  Hey, look at me.  I'm a wrapper!

 Welcome to the Handsome Guys,
Where we're all just a bunch of guys,
 Sitting around eating McDonalds fries,
With another large group of hungry guys

Schnizzle my fizzle, bizzle.  Like I said, it's not a terrible song, but couldn't someone have run a fine toothed education comb over the top of it before they put it on the radio?  Anyway, that's my two cents on it.

Take care.
Matt

6 May, 2002

Good day, Handsome Boys and Girls.

If anyone out there is interested in taking a glimpse of how big business operates these days, I would be happy to open up my doors to you.  Once a month the executives here at Ambidextrous Pictures have a quarterly meeting to discuss goals, financials, and other business development strategies.  With the website being such a major asset to us, and with the incorporation of a
merchandise section to it, we've decided to put some time and money into an extensive demographics study.  The agency that we hired came up with a short list of questions that will help us with more effective target marketing.  We would appreciate a few seconds of your time with these few simple "yes or no" questions.  Thank you.

1) Have you ever relieved yourself in a fish aquarium?
2) Have you ever confessed your sins of the flesh to a clinical pathologist?
3) Have you ever spent a considerable amount of time with a Slovak whore?
4) Have you ever listened to the Glenn Miller Band in the nude?
5) Is your favorite color paisley?

Please respond to our research department at
Matt@AmbidextrousPics.com.

Love,
Matt

Well Here it is, the 19th of April, and the web site is getting some more love from the Handsome Guys.  Sorry for the lack of attention over the last month, but we are trying to get to where we will be updating the site every week.

On a different note we want to thank all of you for checking out our little slice o’ the web.  We have had over 20,000 visits and over 110,000 hits since 1 December, 2001.  We really never believed that we would be getting so many hits so quickly.

3. Cursing and screaming at telemarketers and wrong numbers.
4. Throwing snowballs filled with ice.
5. A menacing glance.
6. Getting porn in the mail.
7. Seeing your enemies drove in front of you in chains, in abject humiliation.
8. Disembodied voices which cause madness to the weak minded.
9. Killer Aliens bent on the destruction of Earth and Rosie O'Donnell.
10. Buckets of scalding water to throw on the unwanted carolers outside.

AllPosters.com has just introduced a couple of damn fine posters into their inventory. The first is for The Man Who Wasn't There by the Coen Brothers and the other is a promotional poster for The Godfather DVD Collection created by Francis Ford Coppola . Follow the link to the filmmaker's page for a better view and/or information on purchasing your own copy of these gems. Much love.

Welcome to The Handsome Guys. If you are searching for male, homosexual pornography, you are unfortunately in the wrong site. Similar yet very different. While both The Handsome Guys and Ambidextrous Pictures wholeheartedly support the gay and lesbian community, this is not a genre of film that we have been able to put enough pre-production research into at this time. But if you've stopped in by accident; take a look around, you are welcome here.

11/21/01

Greetings everybody and Happy Thanksgiving. Just wanted to point out a few new items that we have on our ever changing site. First is the Frequently Ask Questions feature that we have added. If you have any questions for us, you may want to start there. Also we'd like to point out that our Moive Based Action Figure feature has been removed. It wasn't really what we wanted to focus our efforts on anymore site and not even my mother took the time to take a look at it. So ixnay on the iguresfe. And finally, we've archived more of our old news. If for some reason you'd like to take a look at it, check for a link below. Thanks and take care.

Big Handsome Guys news! We are now officially handsomeguysproductions.com. We are also finally linked with our sister company, Ambidextrous Pictures, who is available at ambidextrouspics.com. This is just another step in our eventual dominance of internet interactivity. Take a look at our current projects on the Handsome Guys Gods of Filmmaking page.
