Dogma (1999)

Smith wrote this movie before he wrote Clerks but wanted to wait until he could get funding for the appropriate special effects. The story is about two fallen angels who find a loophole in biblical literature making it able for them to get back into heaven. A great romp on Catholicism, and the Catholic society was none too happy about it. Smith is actually a practicing Catholic, but was just trying to poke a little fun at the written works and politics.

One can actually read all of the hateful and bitter mail that Smith has received relating to the project at his web site; ViewAskew.com. In summary, the film is funny, energetic, and dripping with cameos. (Written and directed by Kevin Smith)
