Cast Away (2000)
Nominated for the Academy Award for sound and actor. While there may be similar story lines out there, there's really no other movie quite like this one. It's about a man, a FedEx man no less (multiple shameless plugs), that is lost at sea after an airplane wreck. Four years later he has lost fifty pounds, grown a ZZ Top beard, and made good friends with a volleyball named Wilson (more shameless plugs). The story really picks up when he tries to integrate back into the life he once had. If you haven't seen it, you really should. Also worth mentioning: Zemeckis's last movie, What Lies Beneath was filmed entirely in the time that it took Tom Hanks to loose the necessary weight and grow the necessary beard for this role.
