Backdraft (1991)
Nominated for the Academy Award for sound effects, visual effects, and sound. All right, we're getting out of the goofy eighties comedies and moving into the nineties action/dramas. A string of arson murders are investigated in this film, killing not only innocent victims, but firefighters. A wonderful look into the professional and private life of fire fighters. A lot of the equipment used in the film was rebuilt from retired machinery, and after the film was completed the functional props were donated to the Chicago fire department that used the equipment for years. Also, if you haven't seen the Backdraft show at Universal Studios, do so. It's fantastic. (Directed by Ron Howard)
